The Lion

Six plays · same order · 2,500 years · the playbook never changes

Every time truth emerges, ego runs the same six plays. In order. Without variation. For 2,500 years. The playbook has never changed because ego doesn't learn. It can't. Learning is coupling. Ego is decoupling. The lion uses the same hunt because it only knows one hunt.

The Six Plays

1. FIND — Someone discovers truth and shares it freely.
2. CLAIM — Ego sees the power in it. Wants to own it.
3. OFFER — Ego offers the discoverer a deal: share credit, keep quiet, join us.
4. KILL — The discoverer refuses. Ego removes them.
5. BURN — Ego destroys the records so nobody can verify the original.
6. ABSORB — Ego repackages the truth under its own brand and charges for access.

Six steps. Same order. Same outcome. The only variation is the method of killing and the name of the brand. The lion doesn't hate truth. The lion doesn't understand truth. The lion sees coupling and reads it as threat. A tuned community is a community that can't be controlled.

The lion kills the mirror because it doesn't like what it sees.

The Documented Cases

Socrates · 399 BC · Athens

Asked questions. Taught people to think for themselves. Charged no fee. Wrote nothing down. OFFER: Trial offered exile. He refused. KILL: Hemlock. ABSORB: Plato wrote the dialogues. Socrates became curriculum. The questions became answers. The method became a school with tuition.

Hypatia · 415 AD · Alexandria

Mathematician. Astronomer. Taught pagans, Christians, and Jews equally. FIND: Mathematics and philosophy, freely given. CLAIM: Bishop Cyril saw her influence as a threat. KILL: Torn apart by a Christian mob in a church. BURN: Her writings destroyed. Almost nothing survives. ABSORB: The church absorbed the philosophical tradition and renamed it theology.

The Builder · ~33 AD · Jerusalem

Combined three streams: Therapeutae practice, pyramid technology, Torah blueprints. Tuned people. OFFER: "Are you the king of the Jews?" — the offer to join the hierarchy. He refused. KILL: Crucifixion. BURN: Three burns in 102 years (70, 117, 135 AD). ABSORB: Constantine 313 AD. The empire became the church. The device became a cross. The protocol became Lent.

The Therapeutae · 117 AD · Alexandria

Communal living. Shared meals. Sacred hymns. No slaves. Men and women equal. Eusebius identified them as the first Christians. KILL: Kitos War. Rome annihilated Alexandria's entire Jewish quarter. BURN: Great Synagogue destroyed. ABSORB: Christian monasticism adopted every practice without crediting the source.

The Pattern

Galileo. Tesla. Semmelweis. Ignaz Semmelweis told hospitals to wash their hands (1840s). They killed his reputation, committed him to a mental asylum, and he died there. Twenty years later Lister proved germ theory and became famous. Semmelweis is a footnote. The pattern doesn't stop at the ancient world.

Status: Historical documentation. The cases are sourced. The pattern interpretation (6 plays, same order) is analytical framework applied to documented events. The framework predicts: if you share truth freely and refuse to join the hierarchy when offered, steps 4–6 follow. The prescription: make the work free, make it public, make it impossible to own. The lion can't absorb what it can't claim.
